200 words about Tom Clancy's Without Remorse

200wordsaboutculture.substack.com

I have long argued for the creation of an Airport Paperback Shared Cinematic Universe. We must bring the heroes of Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, James Patterson, Vince Flynn, and Stephen Hunter together for one ultraviolent, ultra-reactionary spectacle that starts playing immediately after the safety video on every domestic flight. I say this without love for conservative thrillers or shared universes. We have a duty to advocate for the IPs that are too weak to survive on their own. Without intervention, series-starters like American Assassin (Flynn) and Shooter (Hunter) will continue to explode on the launchpad. Clancy adaptations will keep recasting their heroes yearly. No more! Let Michael B. Jordan play John Clark (previously Willem Dafoe and Liev Schreiber) for at least ten movies. Let Without Remorse be the last sloggy Ryanverse film that is not enlivened by crossover appearances from Dirk Pitt, Jason Bourne, and "The Jackal” from Day of the Jackal. Let the upcoming Rainbow Six feature Tom Cruise in a dual role as both Jack Reacher and his old character from The Firm. Do not make me watch another dismal Taylor Sheridan-penned action movie co-starring the world’s smallest lethal dose of box office poison, Cam Gigandet. I refuse!
